Battersea Nine Elms for Costain, Thames Water

IN BRIEF

Client: Costain, Thames Water  |  Location: Battersea, central London
Value: £4M  |  Contract: NEC Option A  |  Duration: 40 weeks

As part of Thames Waters £14m SUDs scheme to capture surplus surface water and put in back into the Thames, Davey Civils installed 870 meters of 1.2 – 2.4 diameter concrete and Polypipe to a depth of 5m. This ambitious project is located in the heart of London’s new central quarter.

Interesting fact: It will result in rainfall landing on an area equivalent to 20 football pitches draining into the Thames instead of entering the local combined sewer.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS

Davey Civils early involvement in the scheme, resulted in changes to the specified pipe materials allowing for a reduction in trenches width and a significant reduction in the amount of contaminated material removed from site.

Davey Civils successfully followed a rigorous, testing, classification, segregation, and transfer of all material programme.

The success of this project hinged on excellent 3rd party working relationships, as the SUD installation passed through several major developments. The Davey Civils team have been commended for their part in forming and maintaining collaborative working relationships on site.

CONTRACT INFORMATION

The contract used was New Engineering Civil Contract (NEC) 3 Option A priced contract with activity schedule. The contract duration was from December 2016 to September 2017. Despite very challenging ground conditions, the project was completed.

TECHNICAL FEATURES
